Mysore Dasara is a Royal festival celebrating victory of truth over evil. Legend has it that the Goddess Chamundeeswari or Durga slew the demon Mahishasuran on Vijayadashami.Dasara is a 10-day festival in this region culminating on Vijayadashami or the tenth day in the month of Ashvin roughly corresponding to the months of either September or October every year (In the Gregorian calendar). The event marks the successful conclusion of the preceding nine days. Vijayadashami epitomizes victory of the King and his subjects, either be it in battle or in day-to-day governance. The preceding nine days of Navarathri have celebrations starting only after six days. The sixth day is in honour of goddess Saraswathi. The eight day is dedicated to goddess Durga and the Ninth day is for Lakshmi – goddess of wealth. On tenth day a grand spectacular Procession is held which starts from Mysore Palace and ends in Bannimantap. In Karnataka, Dasara is observed as State festival – Nadahabba, because of the celebration of the festival is steered by the Royal Family by performing special puja on the occasion of Dasara. In short it is grandeur religious and martial event with royal support.

Breakfast and proceed for full day sight seeing, visit Art Gallery the art gallery in the Jaganmohan Palace houses an excellent collection of ceramics, ivory, sandalwood, stone, antique furniture and ancient musical instruments, St. Philomena’s Church – this imposing Gothic structure with beautiful stained glass windows and lofty towers is a must see, Srirangapatna Island fortress of Tippu Sultan. Visit Tippu’s summer Palace, Mosque and Sriranganatha Temple. Evening-attend rehearsal of Torch Light Parade at Bannimantap. Overnight
